'The Twilight Zone' 50th Anniversary Oct 2, 2009
On October 2nd, 2009 it will be fifty years since the debut of Rod Serling's innovative classic 'The Twilight Zone.' Celebrations are planned in other areas such as Ithaca College in upstate New York which holds the Rod Serling archives. Serling taught there over the last several years of his life, a secondary profession he actually began at Antioch College in 1963 while on a hiatus from the show. Serling had originally been a student at the university (as was his older brother Robert) and it is where he met his wife, Carol. The Initative headquarters are about five miles from the campus and it is our hope to celebrate this momentous occasion with a celebration at the campus. As you can view under The Locations tab, the college is currently not operating with classes as it had for a very long time. Upon several trips to the campus I have spoken to many people about the idea of having some sort of an event. Our goal is to do something simple like erecting a large projection screen in the middle of the vast campus field (seen in side picture) and just having fans from the area come and have a picnic with loved ones and fellow fans and watch episodes of the show. If possible we would also invite people from the area who either knew Serling or had experiences they would like to share to come and speak at the event. Plans are very preliminary as the idea still needs to be presented to the college but nonetheless we still hope for a fitting tribute to take place. We will post updates about the event when they come available.
